Scup season opened Friday May 1st. Taug reports are starting to come in from lower Buzzards Bay. With this week's warm weather they should start to show up in the upper bay any day. Hey the dandelions are out so stop by, grab some green crabs and have at 'em.
I got a report yesterday that there are big numbers of schoolies and pogies in Narragansett Bay. Water temps there were in the high forties. Again, with the warm weather this week fresh schoolies should be showing up this way in good numbers. Two of our guys found schoolies in upper Buzzards Bay last night so things are starting to happen.
We have also had reports of squid in the sound, a great sign for bass and maybe some early blues?
Lots of herring in Middleboro and Wareham, some starting to show up in the canal.
No mackerel reports yet.
On the fresh water side trout fishing remains very good. As usual, the State continues to do a great job with the stocking program. Clich here for the latest info. Bass fishing is still in the pre-spawn pattern but some very nice large fish are being reported throughout SE Mass. We have been sent a number of pictures of fish 5lbs and up to 7lbs+! Action is very mixed with patterns still a little tough to rely on. Rocky or grass points in 5-10' seem to be producing, some inconsistent action in south facing shallows.
